HCAD: Major City's MiniHeroes by WanderingKotka HCAD: Major City's MiniHeroes by WanderingKotka
One of two HCAD reward pieces for :iconcelamowari:, progenitor of heroes!

For those of you new to my gallery or ~celamowari's wild world of "Major City," allow me to introduce you to our two heroes! In white, looking bewildered, is the tech-fueled, super-suited hero of Major City: Captain Satellite! Next to him, is his far able-bodied bodyguard, Shelly Ericson. (Yes, he needs a bodyguard. Yes, she can kick your butt.)

Beyond that, this pic was all about indulging in some cute for cuteness' sake. I really enjoyed piling on the layers in this cut paper style and playing with the different textures. I think I see where the next step in this style will be, but I'll have to wait and play with it more . . . for now, enjoy the cute!

For more adventures in Major City, you can check out ~celamowari's dA page or his blog: [link]

I still absolutely adore how you do that "cut-out" style. It looks great! Very cute.

These two characters really fit well into their Chibi forms.

I have it in the back of my mind that the dynamic duo got characature sketches of themselves at the carnival and can't bring themselves to take it out of it's frame.

... Maybe that's just me though. :XD:

Another marvelous digital paper doll clipping, m'lady.

And another stellar addition to the HCAD! :)

Don't they? I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they suit the chibi style.

Thank you on all counts!

As I have been not so secretly fantasizing about this, I love it like a loving thing. They are so wee and adorable, it would melt my heart even if they weren't my babies.

You've really been pushing the envelope with this style. It's been fascinating to watch it evolve over the last couple of years. But then, I remember the pics from long ago and far away where you really DID make this sort of texturing by hand.

I am delighted by the way you ran with my suggestion of "buildings made of boxes with holes cut out". It just fits so beautifully and visually ties it to the pic we did last year that started the ball rolling.

Thank you! And yes, I too remember that picture! I think these turn out a little sharper just because I have more control digitally than I do manually, but perhaps now I'll be a defter hand. Who knows??

It really does! It ties in with that comic cover well. I hadn't thought of that.

Weren't there a few pictures that you did that way? The one I have is a 2,500 kiriban, which is sort of mind-boggling when you think about it. I'm almost positive there was at least one prior to "The Beacon". I should throw her on the blog one day just for comparison's sake!

(I bet you would be kicking butt with it now. Yes, I'm enabling.)

Ha, you hadn't? It wasn't my intention when I suggested it, but they look very thematically similar. It's quite awesome.

I really like the cut paper style. Do you actually stack paper or is it all digital?

Thank you! It's all digital, I overlay photographs of paper or fabric to get the textures. :) I want to do this in actual paper, but I haven't been able to find a good supply of heavy, interestingly textured papers here in Bulgaria.

Utterly adorable. I find Captain Satellite's egg-shaped head more cute than I ever imagined cute could be. :) Very well done!

Thank you! His costume really lends itself to cuteness. It's so simple that it's easy to exaggerate. :)
