$20 Pinup: Let's Run by WanderingKotka $20 Pinup: Let's Run by WanderingKotka
For :iconsyntheticplatypus:, a pinup-ified version of her in her running gear!

~SyntheticPlatypus, in addition to being a talented artist, is also a bit of a fitness fan and recently ran her first marathon (down in the swelter of AZ, no less!) I had a really fun time working in the little details on her running outfit, like the water belt, as well as making a nod to the nearby Superstition Mountains [link]

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it!

You know, this has been sitting in my inbox for ages as I was contemplating exactly why she looks like she's running FAST (speed has always been something that confounds me), and today it hit me: The clouds kind of look like speed lines! I don't know if that was intentional, but it is SO. CLEVER.

Me too. I've been trying to improve the flow and sense of motion in my figures and breaking my brain over it.

I really, really wish I could take credit the speed-clouds, but the clouds were added in after I had done the figure. (:iconsyntheticplatypus: asked for a simple background after approving the sketch.) But I see the speedline thing now that you mention it. Now I want to do something like that on purpose.

Well, I think you really achieved it here! My comment before (I realized this only after I hit send, derp) seemed to imply that the clouds were the only way you've captured motion here, and that's not true. Her whole body is filled with kinetic energy here, imo. :] The speed clouds are the icing on the cake, though, accidental though they may be. Still, so stinkin' clever. :D

Thank you! The comment did read that way a bit, but that's okay! When I looked at the picture I realized that a lot of the "speed" feeling does come from the horizontal lines in the clouds and the cliff faces. :)

Oops! Well, that's what I get for commenting without proofreading first. ;] But the body captures a lot of motion, too - I think a lot of it has to do with that all of the body is off-balance, and that creates the illusion of movement.

I can't tell you how much I adore this. I mean really truly. Evan was also very impressed and thought it was cute. :) I love how bouncy and bright it is, and I think it's great how you put in the water belt (I run with that thing 99% of the time!) Plus my hair, i really love that pony tail. Money well spent!

If Ginger #1 says it's good stuff, then it must be good. I have to admit that I was both excited and nervous about drawing you.

I love the water belt so much, it's not even funny. I'm really glad you asked me to put that and the background in. :) I wanted to put in some sort of water apparatus, but the extra detail of the belt makes the whole picture seem more true-to-life.

Thank you again, sweets! I had so much fun drawing you.

If this is any indication, your likenesses are improving. Though really, you have drawn :iconsyntheticplatypus: enough that you should have a pretty good handle on her. ;)

Lots of fun details here, and the sense of motion is quite apparent. Plus, that is a GREAT background!

Yeah, knowing :iconsyntheticplatypus: IRL helped me know what to play up. Plus, this style is really, really forgiving. :)

Thank you! I'm glad it looks like she's actually bounding along. The background was odd--I hated it initially, but when I popped this back open to post it I really liked the background. :) Glad you like it too!
